Christopher Nolan is reportedly Amazon’s top choice to helm the James Bond franchise.
It was announced in February 2025 that Amazon MGM Studios had gained creative control of James Bond after long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli decided to step away from the blockbuster spy franchise.
Amazon MGM Studios has yet to make any official announcements regarding the future of James Bond; however, there’s been much talk about who the studio might cast for the titular role.
While that remains unclear at this time, a recent report from TheWrap indicates that “Nolan remains both the top choice and the perfect filmmaker to reinvigorate Bond,” according to “half a dozen industry insiders” that spoke with the outlet.
Will Christopher Nolan direct a James Bond movie?
It was recently reported that Nolan was interested in making a James Bond movie after directing 2020’s Tenet. According to Variety, “Broccoli made clear that no director would have final cut while Bond was under her purview,” causing Nolan to pass on the project as he then went to make Oppenheimer instead.
Whether or not Nolan would want to work with Amazon MGM Studios remains to be seen. The director is currently filming The Odyssey for Universal Pictures, which has a 2026 release date. “Nolan’s schedule might not align with Amazon’s immediate plans, but waiting for him to complete and release that film could prove extraordinarily lucrative,” TheWrap’s article notes.
“If Amazon wants to preserve the legacy, they should do everything possible to get Chris Nolan and wait for him as long as needed,” an unnamed franchise film producer told the outlet.
Nolan’s The Odyssey hits United States theaters on July 17, 2026. The movie stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Cosmo Jarvis, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, and many more.
