Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, made headlines in 2024 with his comments about AEW star Will Ospreay. In late 2023, Ospreay became one of the hottest free agents, with both WWE and AEW vying for his signature.
AEW officially signed Will Ospreay in late 2023, announcing the deal at Full Gear. However, after WWE failed to secure him, Triple H seemingly took a jab at Ospreay in April 2024. He stated that wrestlers who refuse to embrace the grind don’t belong in the industry. His remarks appeared to criticize those unwilling to commit to WWE’s demanding schedule.
The Game stated, “I see what’s out there. I don’t subscribe to, ‘this guy says they are good, that guy says they are good.’ I have to see it… Because they succeed someplace else doesn’t mean they’ll succeed at the big time. When I see people coming out of trying to make it, and then they pick a job where, well, they work less, the schedule is lighter, then I’m like, ‘I’m glad I didn’t pick you.’ If you’re not in it for the grind, at that point early in your career, you have no business being here.”
Many believed Triple H’s remarks were directed at Will Ospreay. On the April 10 edition of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay fired back, accusing Triple H of securing his top position in WWE because he married former WWE boss Vince McMahon’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon.
Recently, Will Ospreay spoke out about the controversy, explaining why he believes Triple H’s comments were directed at him.
Will Ospreay breaks silence on Triple H’s controversial remarks
Former AEW International Champion Will Ospreay recently appeared on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast. Ospreay mentioned that reliable sources had assured him the comments made by Triple H were about him.
He stated, “He was [talking about me]. I’ve got people that I won’t throw under the bus, saying, Yeah, it was about me.” Despite the remarks, Ospreay clarified that he doesn’t hold any resentment, “I don’t hate the guy. I’ve never met him. How can I hate someone that I’ve never even met?” [H/T: sescoops]
The issue is in the past, as Ospreay is now enjoying his success in AEW, while Triple H, as WWE’s Chief Content Officer, continues to elevate the promotion with his booking.
