A new trailer for Happy Face, a forthcoming Paramount+ series that sees Dennis Quaid play a serial killer based on a real-life person, has been released.
Coming from showrunner Jennifer Cacicio (Your Honor, Shooter), Happy Face is a new series inspired by the real-life story of Melissa G. Moore. When Moore was only 15, she learned that her father was a serial killer known as Happy Face. She’s since turned her story into a podcast and autobiography, the latter of which was co-written by M. Bridget Cook.

What happens in the Happy Face trailer?
The Happy Face trailer sees Annaleigh Ashford play Moore. Quaid’s character is serving out a prison sentence and hasn’t spoken to his daughter in years; however, he re-enters Moore’s life after disclosing some information about one of his victims.
“Jumping off from Moore’s true-life story, the Paramount+ Original Series follows Melissa (Ashford) and her incarcerated father, known as the Happy Face Killer (Quaid),” the synopsis reads. “After decades of no contact, he finally finds a way to force himself back into his daughter’s life. In a race against the clock, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed. Throughout, she discovers the impact her father had on his victims’ families and must face a reckoning of her own identity.”
The series also stars James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, and Benjamin Mackey. It is produced by CBS Studios in association with King Size Productions, iHeartPodcasts, and Semi-Formal Productions. Cacicio serves as an executive producer alongside Moore, Robert King, Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson, Michael Showalter, and Jordana Mollick. Showalter directed the first episode.
The first two episodes of Happy Face will premiere on Paramount+ on March 20, 2025, from Paramount Global Content Distribution. The season will have eight episodes in total, with new episodes dropping weekly until the finale airs on May 1, 2025.
