Oscars 2025: Goldie Hawn Reveals Health Condition, Asks Andrew Garfield to Help Present

Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn took the stage at the 2025 Oscars with Andrew Garfield to present the Best Animated Feature Film accolade. Hawn disclosed her health condition during her scripted presentation speech and asked for Garfield’s help, which he graciously provided.

What happened to Goldie Hawn and why did she call on Andrew Garfield?

Hawn and Garfield appeared on stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on March 2, 2025, to present the Oscar for the Best Animated Feature Film. “I was so lucky [to] make movies… and making people laugh,” Hawn read from the teleprompter. “And maybe some didn’t, but that’s OK,” she added. The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two actress added, “In the meantime,” before stopping and addressing her co-presenter, reportedly off-script, “OK. Sweetheart, can you read that? I can’t read that.” She explained, “I’m completely blind. I am, I’ve got the cataracts (a condition in which the eye’s lens, which is generally clear, gets cloudy).”

Garfield charmingly replied, “OK, I’ve got you.” (via The Independent)

This came after Garfield thanked Hawn for making his late mother happy. “Goldie, can I tell you something really quickly?” Garfield enquired, before continuing, “There is a person who gave my mother during her life the most joy and comfort – and tonight, I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn.”

Notably, Garfield’s mother, Lynn Garfield, passed away in 2019 due to complications related to pancreatic cancer.

The 79-year-old Hawn won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for essaying the role of Toni Simmons in the 1969 feature Cactus Flower. She was also nominated for the Best Actress accolade for her outing as Private Judith Benjamin in the 1980 movie Private Benjamin. Meanwhile, Garfield has received the Best Actor nod at the Oscars twice. They were for portraying Desmond Doss in 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge and Jonathan Larson in 2021’s Tick, Tick… Boom!
