Anthony Edwards Faces Suspension After Foul In Timberwolves vs. Lakers Game

Anthony Edwards‘ ejection during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ match against the Los Angeles Lakers might lead to his suspension under NBA rules. The star guard picked up his 16th technical foul of the season. It crossed the league’s mark for a mandatory one-game ban. Now, many are wondering whether the league will uphold the decision in the review.

Read on to know more about Anthony Edwards’ ejection and suspension.

Why was Anthony Edwards ejected and will he face suspension?

Anthony Edwards found himself ejected from Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers after picking up two technical fouls, triggering an automatic one-game suspension. It marks his 16th technical foul this season. The Minnesota Timberwolves star was frustrated throughout the match and ultimately lost his composure in the third quarter. Unless the NBA rescinds one of his technicals upon review, Edwards will be forced to sit out the Timberwolves’ next game against the Utah Jazz.

His first technical was issued after a brief scuffle with Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt at the end of the first quarter. Later, in the third quarter, Edwards argued with officials over a non-call. He was given his second technical foul, leading to his ejection. Frustrated, he stayed on the court momentarily before tossing the ball into the crowd as he left. This action could result in additional penalties from the league.

In the NBA, reaching 16 technical fouls results in an automatic one-game suspension, with additional suspensions following for every two technical fouls beyond that. However, the total resets once the playoffs begin. Players are allowed up to seven technical fouls in the postseason before facing a suspension. Edwards is the first player since DeMarcus Cousins in 2017 to hit the 16-technical mark before March.

This incident marks Edwards’ third career ejection and could have greater consequences for both him and the Timberwolves.
