A Marvel Special Presentation focused on Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher is in the works.
Bernthal played Frank Castle/Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil series. He then went on to lead his own Marvel Netflix show, The Punisher, which ran for two seasons. Bernthal is now once again reprising his character in Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil: Born Again won’t be the last time that MCU fans get to see Frank, however, as Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum has announced a Marvel Special Presentation focused on The Punisher is in the works.
What did Brad Winderbaum say about the Punisher special?
Speaking with ComicBook, Winderbaum said, “That’s a character that’s very personal to Jon. He made that character an icon. He is, you know — I think I can say he’s working on a Special Presentation with us right now about that character. That character is driven by a lot of pain and a need to kind of get vengeance and justice, but it’s always interesting where his philosophy lands on how he deals out that justice. To me, that’s the most interesting part of Punisher, how he justifies the violence he inflicts.”
Thus far, Marvel Studios has released two Marvel Special Presentations, which are a series of standalone television specials set within the MCU. The first one was Werewolf by Night, which arrived in October 2022. That was followed by The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which was released approximately a month later. Both are currently available to stream on Disney+.
Plot details for the Punisher-focused special remain under wraps at this time.
Daredevil: Born Again, meanwhile, officially premieres on March 4, 2025. Along with Bernthal, the show stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
