An old tweet posted by Elon Musk is going viral in the wake of the SpaceX leader’s condemnation of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Twitter post highlights Musk’s support of Ukraine in 2022, less than a month after Russia invaded the country.
On March 5, 2022, Elon Musk tweeted: “Hold Strong Ukraine.” The post also included six Ukrainian flag emojis. The tweet has now resurfaced in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, with Trump having implied that Ukraine “started” the conflict.

Since 2022, Elon Musk has purchased Twitter and renamed it X, and is also serving a major role in Trump’s presidency. Musk has been acting as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, a contracted initiative tasked with cutting federal spending.
Despite this not being a Cabinet-level department, Musk has routinely been seen alongside Trump, with many suggesting he’s been a more influential figure in the second Trump administration than Vice President JD Vance.
Musk’s support of Trump has also seen him side with Trump’s comments regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. Taking to X, Musk posted: “If Zelensky was actually loved by the people of Ukraine, he would hold an election. He knows he would lose in a landslide, despite having seized control of ALL Ukrainian media, so he canceled the election.
“In reality, he is despised by the people of Ukraine, which is why he has refused to hold an election. I challenge Zelensky to hold an election and refute this. He will not.
“President Trump is right to ignore him and solve for peace independent of the disgusting, massive graft machine feeding off the dead bodies of Ukrainian soldiers.”
Musk’s praise for Trump ignoring Zelensky comes after the President’s remarks on February 18 that Ukraine should end the war. Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump said that Ukraine “should have ended [the war]” three years ago, adding “you should have never started it, you could have made a deal.”
