Extraction TV Show Greenlit at Netflix, Omar Sy to Star

An Extraction TV show is officially in the works at Netflix, with Omar Sy to headline the series, according to a new report from Variety.

What do we know about the Extraction TV show?

The series, according to Variety, will be set in the same world as the Netflix film franchise, and has been greenlit for eight episodes as of now. According to a logline for the series, the show will follow a mercenary (played by Sy) “as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.”

The Extraction series will see Glen Mazzara serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Anthony and Joe Russo, as well as Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Christ Castaldi will also serve as executive producers on the show.

“I’m a very lucky man,” Mazzara said. “Omar is a huge talent. Joe, Anthony, and Angela have welcomed me into the AGBO family. The team at Netflix is truly the best I’ve ever worked with. Very lucky indeed.”

Sy is no stranger to working with Netflix, having starred in the streamer’s hit French thriller series Lupin, where he played a professional thief that imitated Arsène Lupin, the literary character. He’s also starred in projects like Intouchables, Jurassic World, Chocolat, The Killer, and more.

“Audiences are in for a thrill as we delve deeper into the ‘Extraction’ universe,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of Scripted Series at Netflix: “With Omar Sy leading the charge, our collaboration with the Russos, alongside Glen Mazzara, fans can expect even more of the high-octane adventures they love from the ‘Extraction’ franchise.”
