What happens at the end of Reacher Season 3 Episode 3?
The ending of Episode 3 sees Jack Reacher drop Richard at his house. He then runs into the latter’s father Zachary Beck and Duke, who are going to the address of a remote DEA house mentioned in Angel Doll’s e-mail. This was sent by Duffy on Reacher’s instructions. Here, it is also claimed that the safe house is the last-known location of the group that “kidnapped” Richard.
Reacher, who realizes that his plan to earn Zachary Beck’s trust has worked, hurries to get Angel Doll’s (whom he had killed) gun. He, Zachary and Duke then drive to the safehouse. While driving, Reacher sees how Duke is disrespectful towards Zachary and Richard. Upon reaching their destination, Zachary waits in the car, while Duke and Reacher go to kill the “kidnappers.”
However, Reacher soon turns on Duke and forces him to drop his gun. He then attempts to glean information about Teresa Justice from the latter, but when he refuses to say anything, he kills him. Reacher then meets up with Zachary and concocts an elaborate yet fake story. Here, he says that Angel Doll, Squire, and Ballinger were responsible for kidnapping Richard. He adds that they killed Duke and threw a grenade at him.
Zachary gets convinced, since his boss and the true mastermind behind their operations, Julius McCabe, had kidnapped and tortured Richard before. He had even employed Angel Doll, Duke, and Ballinger. Moreover, as Reacher had saved Richard’s life before, Zachary makes him his new right-hand man in the ending of Reacher Season 3 Episode 3, allowing him more access to their enterprise’s sensitive information.
Why does Jack Reacher kill Duke in Season 3 Episode 3?
Jack Reacher kills Duke as the latter does not give him any information related to Teresa, saying he is afraid of Julius McCabe. Another reason is that Duke is an obstacle in his plan to gain Zachary’s trust. However, Reacher injures himself, fires multiple gunshots, and blows up the safe house. He does so to make it seem like he and Duke had a violent confrontation with the kidnappers.
