Backstage Update: Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Balor at WWE WrestleMania 41 Unlikely

Tensions between The Judgment Day members Finn Bálor and Dominik Mysterio continue to rise, hinting at a potential showdown at WWE WrestleMania 41. The friction between them escalated after Mysterio defeated Damian Priest last October.

Bálor has repeatedly faced Priest but has failed to secure a victory over the former world champion. Their most recent clash took place on the January 13th edition of WWE RAW, where Priest once again defeated Bálor in a Street Fight.

After the loss, WWE positioned Bálor for a World Tag Team Championship match alongside JD McDonagh. However, following his defeat to Priest, Bálor disappeared from WWE television, leading Mysterio to take his place.

Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh failed to win the titles, and McDonagh suffered a brutal injury that will sideline him for months. Bálor returned at WWE Royal Rumble, delivering an impressive performance but ultimately falling short.

Since Bálor’s return, he and Dominik Mysterio have clashed in multiple heated arguments. On a recent episode of WWE RAW, Mysterio told Liv Morgan that Bálor keeps “jumping down his throat.” Despite the ongoing tension in The Judgment Day, reports suggest that WWE has no plans for a Bálor vs. Mysterio match at WrestleMania 41.

Instead, sources indicate WWE is preparing Bálor to face his former friend AJ Styles on The Grandest Stage of Them All in Las Vegas.

Report suggests WWE considering AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor at WrestleMania 41

WrestleVotes’ Backstage Pass Q&A addressed the possibility of a Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Bálor match at WrestleMania 41, but sources suggest it is unlikely. Instead, WWE is reportedly considering AJ Styles as a potential opponent for Bálor in a singles match.

The report states:

“I could see it, but I don’t think it will happen [Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Bálor]. I’ve heard potentially AJ Styles—if it’s not Bron Breakker—for Finn in a singles match, the first time ever at WrestleMania. As we reported last week, I do believe the undercard is still being worked on… I think a lot of shuffling is still going on there.” [H/T: Cultaholic]

The report also mentioned Bron Breakker as a possible opponent, but AJ Styles recently defeated Dominik Mysterio on WWE RAW. During the match, Bron Breakker interfered, attempting to spear Styles but accidentally hitting Mysterio instead.

This could lead to Finn Bálor stepping in to support his Judgment Day teammate and going after Styles, while Mysterio could go after Breakker for the accidental attack. Only time will tell.
