Why Did Omni-Man Kill the Guardians in Invincible?

Wondering why did Omni-Man kill the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible? The shocking moment in Season 1 shattered the perception that Omni-Man was a noble hero. Instead, viewers saw him ruthlessly eliminate Earth’s greatest protectors. This violent act not only altered the course of the series but also had devastating consequences for his son, Mark Grayson, aka Invincible. Struggling with his father’s betrayal, Mark faced distrust from figures like the Immortal and many others.

But what drove Omni-Man to commit such a brutal massacre? Here’s everything you need to know.

Why Omni-Man killed the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible

Omni-Man killed the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible because the Viltrumite Empire ordered him to eliminate any potential threats that could hinder their conquest of Earth.

Initially, Omni-Man led the world to believe he had come to Earth to protect and guide humanity. However, the truth eventually surfaced that his mission was to prepare the planet for Viltrumite rule.

The Viltrumite Empire suffered a genocide called the great purge. This event saw a huge chunk of the population, deemed weak by superior beings, get killed. This was part of the empire’s plans to build a population, consisting of solely powerful and genetically perfect beings.

Unfortunately, this genocide also drastically reduced their numbers. To remedy this, the Viltrumite Empire sent multiple warriors across different planets to scout them and prepare them for takeover. Moreover, they were also tasked with breeding offspring with the native population, to see if they inherited similar powers. Furthermore, if the planets resisted the takeover by the Viltrum Empire, the Viltrumites assigned there were instructed to destroy it.

When Mark refused to join him, Nolan attempted to destroy Earth. However, after spending considerable time on Earth, he had a change of heart and couldn’t go through with it. Instead, he chose to leave. Additionally, Omni-Man did not return to Viltrum because he knew he would be branded a traitor.
