With General Hospital‘s small-screen debut dating back to April 1963, the long-running soap drama has witnessed its fair share of recastings. Lucky Spencer is one fan-favorite character to have undergone the said process, with multiple actors trying their hand at the role over the years. While Jonathan Jackson, who initiated the part, effectively returned to play Spencer in 2024, the seasoned television star is once again leaving General Hospital, as per latest reports. With Guy Wilson confirmed to step into Jackson’s vacant shoes, fans have wondered if the switch-up would result in the latter’s permanent departure from the series.
Here’s everything you need to know about the recent recasting of Lucky Spencer’s character in the beloved soap.
Is Jonathan Jackson leaving General Hospital and being replaced by Guy Wilson?
Days of Our Lives alum Guy Wilson is officially taking over the role of Lucky Spencer. However, the change is a temporary one and does not mean that Jonathan Jackson is leaving General Hospital.
Wilson is only subbing in for Jackson for a short while, and fans can expect the Tuck Everlasting star to come back to Port Charles sooner rather than later. A General Hospital spokesperson has also announced that Jonathan Jackson has already returned to the set for filming, confirming that the actor is not leaving the show. The representative also stated that Jackson could reprise his role of Lucky Spencer as early as the end of February 2025.
The multi-faceted artist originated the role in 1993 before exiting the series in 1999 to pursue other ventures. Jonathan Jackson returned to the part in 2009 before leaving General Hospital for the second time in 2011. Following a brief appearance in 2015, Jackson made a much-awaited comeback in 2024.
On the other hand, Guy Wilson is no stranger to the setting of General Hospital. His present stint as Lucky Spencer marks the second time that the soap veteran has landed in Port Charles. In March 2006, he portrayed a teenage version of Luke in a dream sequence. The scene saw Lucky’s late father and Tracy fantasize about how things would’ve turned out if they had encountered one another during their youth.
