Creature Commandos Season 2 is on its way and it can potentially arrive sooner than many fans might have expected. Writer and showrunner Dean Lorey gave an exciting update on the release date of the critically acclaimed animated series. Created by the DCU co-head James Gunn, Creature Commandos debuted on Max on December 5, 2024, and was greenlit for the sophomore season later that month, before Season 1 finished airing.
DC’s Creature Commandos Season 2 could release next year
Dean Lorey revealed in a new interview that Creature Commandos Season 2 has been placed “on a fast track.” Notably, Lorey is the co-creator of Harley Quinn, another Max animated series based on DC Comics.
“Yeah. I mean, it’s still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out,” Lorey told The Direct. “So it’s definitely moving forward. I mean, it’s like, they put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we’re in it,” he added.
Lorey didn’t explicitly disclose or speculate upon the release date of the second chapter. However, Creature Commandos is based on the eponymous DC comic book team created by writer J. M. DeMatteis and artist Pat Broderick. Gunn submitted his scripts for the series in late 2022 (via The Hollywood Reporter). The project eventually became the entry point of the DC Universe. Several outlets reported in January 2023 that the production was underway. As mentioned above, Season 1 debuted on December 5, 2024. It aired for seven episodes before concluding on January 9, 2025. Considering all this, Season 2 can potentially come out as early as sometime in 2026.
During the same interview, Lorey teased the roster of the Creature Commandos team in Season 2. When asked if some new members of the team would play big roles in the upcoming season, Lorey said that it was “somewhat accurate.” He added, “I mean, it’s like those are all characters that we think would be really fun in the season. And James [Gunn] wrote, you know, all the episodes last season. So those were his instincts, which are pretty good. So yeah, I would say there’s that and, I mean, there’s no world where I would want to do a season without a beefed up GI Robot.”
