After six seasons and a movie, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight believes there are still more stories to be told in this universe.
While promoting his new show A Thousand Blows on BBC Breakfast, Knight spoke about the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, which wrapped production in December.
“We’re putting it together now,” Knight said. “I would say this, wouldn’t I? But it’s fantastic. We’ve got the best, I think, the best British actors all in one place, including Stephen [Graham]. The stuff that I’m watching, the rushes, the assemblies, no one will be disappointed. It is quite an incredible thing. It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.”
Knight deliberately mentioned that the movie ends this part of the Peaky story, but the universe is “not over.” Another movie or series set in the Peaky Blinders universe appears to be on the way.
“I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of Peaky will continue,” Knight explained.
Who is involved in the Peaky Blinders Movie?
Cillian Murphy returns as the iconic gangster Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders movie, which will be released on Netflix. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders,” Murphy said in a statement. “This is one for the fans.”
Joining Murphy in the movie’s cast are Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan.
The Netflix synopsis reads, “The Peaky Blinder movie will be the epic continuation of the multi-award-winning, six-season gangster saga. Set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, Peaky Blinders followed the rise (and sometimes fall) of the Shelby family as they navigated a world wracked with radical social, economic, and political change.”
Tom Harper directs the Peaky Blinders movie from a script by Knight. Harper previously directed episodes from Peaky Blinders Season 1.
Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons — four on BBC Two and two on BBC One. Netflix later released the show in the United States.
The Peaky Blinders movie does not have a release date.
