Elio Release Date Delayed for Pixar Movie With Zoe Saldana

The release date for Pixar’s Elio has been pushed back.

Elio is a forthcoming sci-fi adventure film from Pixar Animation Studios. Directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, the voice cast of the film includes Yonas Kibreab as Elio, Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, and Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa.

When is the new release date for Elio?

Elio was originally supposed to open in United States theaters on June 13, 2025. It has now been pushed back by a week, meaning it now has a June 20, 2025, release date. Prior to that, Elio originally had a March 1, 2024, release date. It was pushed back to 2025 in October 2023.

Rather than opening on the same day as DreamWorks’ live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake, this means that Elio now shares a release date with Danny Boyle and Sony Pictures’ 28 Years Later.

The new release date also gives it some more breathing room in between two other upcoming Disney tentpoles: the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, which arrives on May 23, 2025, and Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which releases on July 25, 2025.

“For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers — in Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film Elio, the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.”
