Amy Poehler recently reflected on her long-standing friendship with fellow actress Tina Fey and expressed her thoughts on it. The duo, known for having one of the most enduring friendships in Hollywood, have often been vocal about their love for each other. Recently, Poehler and Fey appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show and reminisced about their bond of over 30 years. Here is what they said about their friendship.
What did Amy Poehler say about Tina Fey?
Renowned actresses Amy Poehler and Tina Fey recently came as guests on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before they embarked on the next leg of their comedy tour, Restless Leg.
The conversation turned to Poehler and Fey’s friendship when the trio looked back at the time they hosted the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update segment. Amy Poehler teamed up with Tina Fey to co-host the segment from 2004 to 2006 after Fallon’s exit. The Parks and Recreation actress dived deep into the bond she and Fey have shared for 30 years now and recalled the years they have worked together.
She told Fallon, “We’ve been friends for over 30 years, and we’ve been together doing stuff a lot, but I was — I’m kind of like Tina’s second wife because you guys did it first,” referring to Fey and Fallon’s stint in SNL before Poehler joined. “Yeah, that’s true,” Fey said.
Poehler further added, “I came in, and I got all the second wife goodness.” The actress also asserted that she bagged the job on Weekend Update because of Fey. She labeled herself a “nepo friend” and said, “Tina got me the job, 100%. Vouched for me in every way. And I was joking backstage, I was like, ‘SNL feels like college to me. Like, I would never get into it now.'”
In an interview in January 2024, Tina Fey shared similar sentiments as Amy Poehler and stated, “We really just have such an ease and shorthand working with each other.” (via Today)
