Wendy Williams Denies Having Dementia, Says She Doesn’t ‘Belong’ in Care Facility

Wendy Williams has spoken out about her dementia diagnosis, pushing back against reports about her condition. In a recent interview, the former talk show host expressed her disagreement with the diagnosis and voiced frustration about her current living situation. Her comments have ignited further discussion. So, here’s what Wendy Williams says about her health.

What did Wendy Williams say about her dementia?

Wendy Williams has publicly denied having dementia, despite her medical diagnosis. In a recent interview for IMPACT x Nightline: What’s Happening with Wendy Williams?, she rejected claims that she suffers from frontotemporal dementia, saying, “How dare you?”

She also referred to the New York care facility where she currently resides as a “prison.” Explaining further, the former host said, “That’s what this floor is called, the memory unit. And it is true that the people who live here don’t remember anything.” Williams insisted she “don’t belong here” and disagreed with the reports about her condition.

Her brother, Tommy Williams, has also questioned the diagnosis, stating in the Nightline special that his sister seems fine. He stated, “I don’t see dementia. She doesn’t see dementia. … Right now, she’s confined.” He also expressed confidence that she will eventually return.

Williams had made similar remarks earlier during a call to The Breakfast Club radio show. She dismissed concerns about her cognitive health, saying, “I am not cognitively impaired.” She also described her daily life at the facility.

Following her repeated denials, Williams’ legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has requested a reevaluation of her condition. In a letter to a New York judge, she stated that Williams should undergo comprehensive neurological and psychological testing. The filing also noted that it is not uncommon for patients with frontotemporal dementia to reject their diagnosis. While Morrissey has not addressed the situation publicly, she has previously denied any misconduct. (via USA Today)
