A whopping 20 years after the premiere of its original film, the Keanu Reeves-led Constantine 2 has finally received a positive update regarding its development. Helmed by Francis Lawrence, the 2005 flick features Reeves as John Constantine, a demon hunter who makes a shocking discovery about the demons’ plan to invade Earth while investigating a convoluted case. As such, admirers of the fantastical horror flick have long been gunning for an update regarding its sequel. Their wish could soon come true as Lawrence recently revealed that he, Keanu Reeves, and the team are actively working to develop Constantine 2.
Francis Lawrence provides key update on Constantine 2
In a recent discussion, the filmmaker confirmed that the Constantine sequel is very close to becoming a reality.
While talking to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, Francis Lawrence revealed, “I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva [Goldsman], Keanu, and I are super, super excited about it.”
Lawrence also disclosed that he and his team finally figured out a way to bring Keanu Reeves back in Constantine 2 after scouring through a hoard of comic books featuring the cynical exorcist. “We have a great idea. We have gone through a bunch of the comics over the years and looked at things,” the I Am Legend director stated.
Lawrence then expanded upon how the passion that he, Keanu Reeves, and producer Akiva Goldsman harbor for the character helped him curate a fitting story for Constantine 2. “I will say that there’s probably grains from things that we’re pulling, but in truth, most of it is just coming from the three of us, you know, loving the character, loving the world, having it sort of in the back of our minds for 20 years and just kind of percolating on ideas, and stories and characters we love, and ideas we love.”
Despite Francis Lawrence’s encouraging words, Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to share any details regarding the release date of the Constantine sequel.
