The Wild Robot 2 Gets Exciting Sequel Update From Producer

With the immense success of 2024’s The Wild Robot already sparking rumors of a potential sequel, the film’s producer has come out to address the possibilities of The Wild Robot 2. Helmed and scripted by Chris Sanders, the animated movie follows the journey of a stranded robot named Roz, who learns to adapt to the surroundings of a foreign island and eventually formulates a close bond with a lonely gosling. The film not only amazed audiences with its unique plotline but also bagged critical acclaim, even securing three Academy Awards nominations. With rumors regarding a sequel running wild, Jeff Hermann has provided fans with an update regarding The Wild Robot 2.

Jeff Hermann hints at talks for The Wild Robot 2 to begin soon

In a recent discussion, Hermann stated that while he would love to return for a follow-up edition, DreamWorks Animation has yet to officially greenlight The Wild Robot 2.

While talking to The Direct at the 2025 Saturn Awards, the accredited producer stated, “I wish I had official word. It’s no secret that there are more books that directly continue the story of the book and we position the movie in such a way where it kind of lines up with where the territory that the second book goes. We would love the opportunity to do that.”

Hermann chose to stay silent about the possibilities of a sequel but still indicated that talks around The Wild Robot 2 could be ongoing. “There might be talks happening, but nothing I can officially say at this point,” he explained.

The Wild Robot draws inspiration from a Peter Brown novel of the same name published in 2016. Interestingly, Brown has already published two sequels to his original work, with 2018’s The Wild Robot Escapes and 2023’s The Wild Robot Protects, effectively building upon Roz’s storyline. As such, there is ample source material for the proposed The Wild Robot 2 if the creators choose to move forward with the franchise. Nevertheless, as Hermann conveyed, official word on the much-discussed sequel has yet to come out.
