Born on July 6, 1957, Duguay hails from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He started his career in hockey by playing for his home team Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League. Further, he was selected by the Canada junior team to play in the 1977 World Junior Championships.
