Amazon MGM Studios have welcomed two more cast members to the current roster of Mattel Films‘ highly-anticipated Masters of the Universe movie. British actors James Purefoy (The Veil) and Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) have been tapped to portray the respective roles of King Randor and Queen Marlena, who are He-Man’s parents. The film will arrive in theaters on June 5, 2026.
“The movie follows 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia,” reads the official synopsis. “After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
Who will lead the Masters of the Universe movie?
Masters of the Universe cast will be led by Nicholas Galitzine (Bottoms) as He-Man, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, Alison Brie (Community) as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba (Thor) as Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) as The Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla) as Malcolm/Fisto, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Game of Thrones) as Goat Man, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.
The film is directed by Travis Knight from a screenplay written by Chris Butler, which is based on the initial draft by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. Further details about the live-action remake’s plot and characters are still under wraps. It is a production by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, with Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch as producers.
