With The Batman 2 constantly getting postponed, fans can have a sigh of relief as Andy Serkis has finally delivered a positive update regarding the Matt Reeves directorial’s production. Previously touted to hit the theatres in 2026, the sequel will now have to wait until October 1, 2027, to see the light of day. Nevertheless, according to Serkis, who will be returning to Reeves’ setup as Alfred Pennyworth, the project has started to take steps in the right direction, albeit in a small capacity.
Andy Serkis confirms Matt Reeves ‘told me the story of The Batman 2’
During his recent appearance at Orlando’s fan convention MegaCon, the iconic actor provided an update on The Batman 2’s production, confirming that Matt Reeves has shared the project’s story with him.
In an interview at the event, Andy Serkis admitted that he is equally desperate for the follow-up edition to 2022’s The Batman to come out as the fans. “I am as hungry for it as you all are. He [Matt Reeves] told me the story of The Batman 2, and I was so excited for it,” the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star noted.
While Andy Serkis shied away from giving any specifics regarding the plot of The Batman 2, his update clearly indicates that Matt Reeves has, at least, figured out the storyline he intends to showcase in the much-awaited sequel.
This comes as a minor consolation for fans, following James Gunn’s worrying comments regarding the movie’s scripting phase. The DC Studios co-CEO shocked everyone in December 2024, when he revealed that Reeves has yet to finalize the first draft of the script for The Batman 2 in a Threads discussion.
With filming yet to commence on the film, fans can expect Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader to return to the big screens in October 2027, provided that there are no more hiccups in production.
