When Is The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep Set? Timeline Explained

The Witcher universe is expanding once again, and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming animated film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. This new chapter promises to explore uncharted waters, diving into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. But where does this story fit into the larger timeline of The Witcher?

Here’s a complete breakdown of the series’ timeline.

Here’s when The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep takes place in the show’s timeline

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is set between Episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher Season 1.

This places the film in the heart of the first season, offering a fresh perspective on Geralt of Rivia’s journey during a critical period. In The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, Geralt is hired to investigate a string of mysterious attacks in a coastal village.

What begins as a routine monster-hunting mission quickly spirals into a complex conflict between humans and merpeople. As tensions mount, Geralt must navigate treacherous alliances and uncover the truth before the feud erupts into full-scale war.

Sirens of the Deep draws inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice,” part of his acclaimed Witcher book series. The Netflix film is penned by The Witcher series writers Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin.

Furthermore, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner of the live-action series, is producing. Sapkowski himself serves as a creative consultant, ensuring the film stays faithful to the source material (via Tudum).

The movie is directed by Kang Hei Chul, who previously worked on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Animation is handled by Studio MIR, the renowned South Korean studio behind The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.

For those who need a quick recap, The Witcher Season 1 introduces three central characters. Starting from, Geralt of Rivia, the brooding monster hunter with a moral code. Then, Ciri, the young princess fled her war-torn kingdom. Last but not least, Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful sorceress with a tumultuous past. Their stories unfold across the Continent, weaving together themes of destiny, survival, and sacrifice.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep premieres on Netflix on February 11, 2024.
