What happens in the Shifting Gears clip?
In the Shifting Gears clip, Allen’s character is dressed up for a Valentine’s Day “thing.” When asked if this “thing” is a date by Maxwell Simkins’s Carter, Allen quickly deflects and instead says he’s “going to go see your grandma.” Carter responds, “Oh, boy, Pops. Grandma’s dead.”
The logline for the episode reads, “A Valentine’s Day visit to his late wife’s grave sparks an unexpected connection for Matt in an unlikely place. Meanwhile, Riley is thrust into the spotlight for a promotional video at the dance studio.”
The cast of Shifting Gears also includes Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia.
Speaking with ComingSoon, Allen said of working with Dennings on Shifting Gears, “She and I, for some reason, born the same day, many years apart, have…I feel like this conundrum that I do feel like I’m related to her. And I said it, our pissy attitude is very similar. When we argue, it’s the same decibel. It’s hard to describe how organic this thing feels. And that’s a word I’ve learned from great actors that I’ve worked with. And I said, when it got emotional, I said, when I decided to do this, I do want this guy in pain that he lost the love of his life, and you don’t ever meet the wife.”
