Xolo Maridueña, who starred in the 2023 DC movie Blue Beetle, has addressed the rumors which suggest that he is joining Marvel’s Nova series. In July 2024, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that the series is in development with Richard Rider as the main protagonist. Albeit, there are no updates on the cast and release window of the series yet.
Xolo Maridueña responds to rumors of him playing Nova in MCU
The Blue Beetle actor was recently present at the Saturn Awards when he stopped to have a short chat with The Hashtag Show. Here, Xolo Maridueña was asked whether the rumors about him being considered for the Nova series were true or not.
In a clip uploaded by The Hashtag Show on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed that he would be open to being a part of both DC and Marvel. Maridueña asserted that being Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe “would be cool too. Look, yeah, that’d be great.” The actor added, “S–t, I’m ready for whatever work is coming my way, bro. I’ll hit up some push-ups for whoever wants me to do some.”
The rumors of Maridueña being the top candidate to play Nova in Marvel have been around for a long time. While talking to ComicBook in October 2022, he even addressed the rumors and stated, “I’ve heard that one before. And look, DC is the first one to pull the trigger on, ‘let’s have a latino superhero.’ So they’re talking the talk and walking the walk.”
Furthermore, Xolo Maridueña did reveal his interest in playing Sam Alexander’s Nova and conveyed, “If that Nova project gets made soon, I’d love to see if there is a Sam Alexander Nova, I would love that. Getting more people in the door. We’ll see what they do.”
