New rumors have propped up online, suggesting Jonathan Majors’ return to the MCU as Kang the Conqueror. Accordingly, fans are wondering whether there is any truth to the rumors surrounding his return. Majors last played the character and his variants in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang was also set to take center stage in Avengers 5. However, Marvel Studios broke ties with the actor after he was found guilty of two misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment in 2023, and abandoned his storyline.
But, is Marvel considering bringing back Majors’ time-traveling and multiversal villain? Here is what we have learned.
Is Marvel looking to bring back Jonathan Majors as Kang?
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed whether they are bringing back Jonathan Majors’ Kang.
The rumors of Majors’ return to the MCU surfaced when ScreenGeek reported citing sources that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios were considering bringing back Majors’ Kang the Conqueror in a future MCU installment. The site further claimed that this future project was to conclude the character’s storyline, established in Loki and continued in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
TMZ, however, chimed in and debunked ScreenGeek’s report, stating that Majors’ was not in talks to reprise his role and that “the studio is not considering bringing Jonathan back into the MCU fold.”
Notable scooper and industry insider MyTimeToShineHello later posted on X (formerly Twitter) that TMZ’s headline was misleading and clickbait. They pointed out that ScreenGeek had only mentioned “considering” in their report.
Later, The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez also jumped in on the discourse, after a fan asked him if there was any credibility behind the rumors surrounding Jonathan Majors’ Kang’s return. “Absolutely not,” Perez replied.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether Majors will return to the MCU. Marvel Studios, who have since repurposed The Kang Dynasty to Doomsday, are now fully focused on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as the main antagonist, and the development of his storyline within the Multiverse Saga.
