Alan Greenspan is an economist and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Born on March 6, 1926, Greenspan hails from Washington Heights, New York City. He finished his schooling at George Washington High School. Further, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Economics from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Later, Greenspan attended Columbia University to attain a master’s degree in the subject and also completed his Ph.D from New York University.

During his Ph.D, he worked under the Brown Brothers Harriman’s managing director, Eugene Banks. Further, he served as an analyst at the National Industrial Conference Board. Greenspan progressed as the appointed chairman at the Federal Reserve, chairman and president of Townsend-Greenspan & Co., Inc. He also became the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.

Additionally, Greenspan held the position of a cooperate director for Automatic Data Processing, Aluminum Company of America, J.P. Morgan & Co., and many others. In 1987, Greenspan was appointed as the chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.

Following his departure from the Federal Reserve, he started his own economic consulting firm known as Greenspan Associates LLC. Greenspan has also written a memoir titled The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World, which received positive reviews from critics.
