Will Ferrell Reacts to Will & Harper’s Oscar Snub: ‘Suck It’

Actor Will Ferrell jokingly called out the Oscars for not nominating his 2024 documentary Will & Harper in the Best Documentary Feature category. The film, which features Ferrell and his close friend Harper Steele, focuses on the duo taking a cross-country tour in a car and showcasing their bond of 30 years. Will & Harper debuted on Netflix on September 27, 2024, just a few days after a limited theatrical release.

Will Ferrell appeared on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show on February 3, where he shared his reaction to Will & Harper not receiving an Oscar nomination.

Just as the actor sat on the couch, Colbert started praising the documentary and the strong bond between Will Ferrell and Harper Steele. In response, Ferrell said, “Ask me if we got Oscar-nominated,” prompting the host to further laud the movie before finally asking the question.

Expressing his frustration over not receiving a nomination, Will Ferrell asserted, “We didn’t get it.” In response, Colbert apologized and jokingly cursed the Academy. To which, Ferrell added, “Especially the doc branch. You don’t want to hang out with the doc branch. What a bunch of losers.”

Looking at the audience of the show, the You’re Cordially Invited star playfully taunted the group responsible for selecting the Best Documentary Feature nominees. He said, “I hope there’s some of them here tonight. If you’re a member of the doc branch, suck it.”

Notably, the movie managed to win over both critics and audiences, receiving exceptional reviews from them. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has earned a near-perfect score of 99% on the Tomatometer and 81% on the Popcornmeter. Further, on Metacritic, the movie has got a “Generally Favorable” rating, earning a solid score of 74, based on 28 critic reviews.
