The official teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has finally arrived, but it is noticeably missing the display of Mr. Fantastic’s powers. The trailer treated fans with exciting visuals of the powers of all the Fantastic Four members except for their leader, the brilliant scientist Reed Richards. Marvel fans were eager to see Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic use his stretchy abilities. However, they expressed their disappointment at not seeing Reed show off his superpowers in the trailer.
Here’s everything we know about why Mr. Fantastic’s powers are missing from The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ trailer.
Why The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ trailer didn’t show Mr. Fantastic’s powers
There are several reasons why Marvel might have left out Mr. Fantastic’s powers from the trailer of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Firstly, it is quite possible that the post-production work on the movie is not fully complete. Thus, the studio may need more time to get the visuals of his iconic stretching powers down to the tee. The last thing that Marvel Studios needs is Mr. Fantastic’s elasticity looking janky on screen due to poor VFX.
Secondly, it is also possible that the studio left out Reed’s powers from the trailer on purpose, to ensure that fans get the first look at his ability in the theater itself. Many speculate that this may have to do with the movie’s plot as well. Since Reed perhaps feels responsible for how his family was affected by the fateful outer space mission, he might have decided to use his powers scarcely out of guilt. But, whether or not this theory holds true will be revealed on July 25, 2025, when the movie arrives in theaters.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps serves as the 37th film of the MCU, directed by Matt Shakman. Set in the retro-futuristic 1960s, the movie follows the titular superhero group as they battle the cosmic villains, such as Galactus and Silver Surfer. First Step stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby as his wife Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn takes on the role of Johnny Storm or the Human Torch, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.
