Harrison Ford Failed To Get Mark Ruffalo’s Advice for Red Hulk

Harrison Ford recently spoke about his role as Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World and explained that he developed the character without input from Mark Ruffalo. He figured out the role on his own and hoped audiences would receive his portrayal well. As Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, he brings a major character to the MCU, introducing another Hulk-like figure in a theatrical film.

‘Had to wing it,’ says Harrison Ford about his Captain America 4 role

In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, Harrison Ford was asked if he had spoken with Mark Ruffalo about playing a Hulk character in the MCU. Ford responded, “he wasn’t available for a consultation,” adding, “I just had to wing it. I hope he’s not disappointed.” He also joked about facing Ruffalo in a battle to determine who is “hulkier.”

Ford’s Red Hulk will be the second Hulk-like character in an MCU film, following Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk. Other Hulk-related characters, including She-Hulk, Skaar, and Abomination, have appeared in the franchise. However, Ford’s role marks the first major on-screen transformation into Red Hulk. His character, Ross, has long been a Hulk antagonist. This transformation represents a significant shift in the MCU.

Director Julius Onah praised Ford’s performance, describing it as “mind-blowing.” He said, “All of us on set were like, ‘Holy f***ing sh*t, he nailed it?'” Onah also emphasized Red Hulk’s destructive nature, calling him “a rage monster” and highlighting the return of a more aggressive Hulk presence in the MCU (via Empire).

Ford’s comments suggest he may return as Red Hulk beyond Captain America: Brave New World, which releases on February 14, 2025. His remark about a potential clash with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk hints at a future showdown. The MCU’s upcoming films, including Thunderbolts, could provide more opportunities for Ford’s character to expand his role in the franchise.
