Fans went mutts over Dog Man at the domestic box office this past weekend.
Universal’s animated Dog Man opened in the United States to $36 million this past weekend. That’s the second-biggest opening for an animated movie in January of all time following DreamWork’s Kung Fu Panda 3, which opened to $41.8 million in 2016.
Per Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Companion came in second place with $9.5 million. While that isn’t a huge opening, it’s enough to earn back the roughly $10 million that was spent on the film’s production.
Mufasa: The Lion King followed in the new three spot, while One of Them Days and Flight Risk took fourth and fifth. The Brutalist notably brought in an additional $1.86 million and came in ninth, while Steven Soderbergh’s Presence has now bowed out of the top ten in its second week of release.
