Xolo Mariduena is finally returning as Blue Beetle in a dedicated animated series. The Cobra Kai star recently stated that he hopes to reprise his role in James Gunn’s revamped DCU sometime in 2026. Mariduena first donned the mantle of Jaime Reyes in 2023’s Blue Beetle before Gunn rebooted the franchise for good.
Despite the massive changes, the 23-year-old actor seems to have retained his role under Gunn, with Xolo Mariduena coming back to voice the character of Blue Beetle for an upcoming animated show. As per Mariduena’s comments, fans can expect the series to come out as early as next year.
Xolo Maridueña says Blue Beetle’s animated show is targeted for a 2026 release
In a recent discussion, Xolo Maridueña revealed that the team behind the Blue Beetle animated series is working tirelessly to complete the project.
While talking with The Direct‘s Russ Milheim at the Saturn Awards, Mariduena expressed that he expects the Blue Beetle show to premiere in 2026. “I’m ready to come back. We’re hitting hard this animated project, hoping to get this settled out this year to show everyone next year,” the rising Hollywood star conveyed.
Maridueña also reinstated his faith in James Gunn’s decisions when asked about his future in the DCU. “Look, he’s got his hands in his kitchen. I don’t want to walk in while the chef is doing his thing. But I can say that once they’re finished with this three-course meal, I’m ready,” the Parenthood actor clarified. Xolo Mariduena then referred to Gunn’s previous comments, where the filmmaker had confirmed that Blue Beetle will be “an amazing part of the DCU going forward!” He noted, “I have no reason to believe that he’s lying.”
Despite Mariduena’s encouraging updates, the Blue Beetle animated series has yet to receive an official release date from its creators.
