There was an emotional tribute for the late singer Liam Payne during the 2025 Grammy Awards following his tragic death in late 2024. In addition to his solo career, Payne achieved international fame as a part of the boy band One Direction and passed away at the age of 31 when he fell from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, 2024. Accordingly, the Recording Academy made sure to include a message dedicated to his memory at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

How Grammy Awards honored Liam Payne with emotional clip
The 2025 Grammy Awards’ In Memoriam segment highlighted the passing of Liam Payne in late 2024 with an emotional tribute showing a montage of Payne performing in One Direction. The snippet included numerous clips of Payne performing on stage with fellow One Direction members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik throughout the years.
At one point in the tribute, a quote from Payne was used in which he spoke about his feelings regarding the instant success of One Direction and their influence. “We never expected any of this to happen,” the late singer could be heard saying in the video. “If you actually sit and think about it, we’ve done some amazing things.”
Coldplay’s Christ Martin then made the night even more emotional for everyone by performing “All My Love” from his band’s latest album, Moon Music. Martin dedicated the song to Payne and all the other artists who passed away in 2024.
At the time of writing, the Argentine authorities have charged five people over the death of Liam Payne. The case is currently on track to proceed to trial.
