The release date for the Peter Dinklage-led The Toxic Avenger reboot has officially been set at Cineverse nearly two years since its initial premiere at Fantastic Fest back in 2023.
The film, which was originally filmed in 2021, served as a reboot of the classic 1984 dark comedy of the same name. It was directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman and starred Mitch Cohen as the titular anti-hero.
The 1984 film spawned three more installments, with the 2023 feature serving as the franchise’s latest iteration. It is directed by I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore filmmaker Macon Blair.
When is the release date for The Toxic Avenger?
The Toxic Avenger will premiere as an unrated wide release on August 29. The film stars Emmy and Golden Globe winner Dinklage (known for his appearances in Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and more) as Winston Gooze/The Toxic Avenger.
The rest of the cast includes Kevin Bacon as Bob Garbinger, Elijah Wood as Fritz Garbinger, Jacob Tremblay as Wade, Julia Davis as Kissy Sturnevan, Luisa Guerreiro as Toxie, Julian Kostov as Budd Berserk, Sarah Niles as Mayor Togar, David Yow as Guthrie Stockins, Taylour Paige as J.J. Doherty, Jonny Coyne as Thad Barkabus, Rebecca O’Mara as Shelly Gooze, and Blair as Dennis.
The film revolves around a freak accident that turned janitor Winston Gooze into an unlikely hero known as The Toxic Avenger.
“While the original film followed the fate of Melvin Ferd Junko III, who goes from zero to toxic hero in a case of bullying gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take follows a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength all his own,” the synopsis reads. “Peter Dinklage stars as downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze who, after falling into a vat of toxic waste, becomes none other than The Toxic Avenger.”
