The Switzerland cast has added Olivia Cooke and Alden Ehrenreich. Per Variety, Cooke and Ehrenreich join Helen Mirren in the crime thriller about novelist Patricia Highsmith. Filming is underway in Rome.
Cooke is best known for her role as Alicent Hightower in HBO’s House of the Dragon, the spin-off to the hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. Cooke previously had roles in Slow Horses, Vanity Fair, and Bates Motel. On the film side, the English actress first broke out in Ouija and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Cooke also starred in the Oscar-nominated Sound of Metal.
Ehrenreich famously won the role of a young Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Ehrenreich had a busy 2023, appearing in Cocaine Bear, Fair Play, and the Academy Award-winning Oppenheimer. Ehrenreich will have a role in the Marvel series Ironheart.
Who else is in the Switzerland cast?
Mirren, Cooke, and Ehrenreich are the only confirmed cast members.
Mirren will play Highsmith, the author best known for penning novels about the con man Tom Ripley, most notably The Talented Mr. Ripley. Ehrenreich stars as Edward, a young literary agent. Cooke’s character details have not been revealed.
In this fictionalized drama, Mirren plays Highsmith, who is “fading away in Switzerland” when Edward attempts to persuade the famous novelist to write another book about Ripley. “It soon becomes clear that the charming agent is on a more sinister mission,” Variety’s synopsis reads. “As they begin to collaborate on a new “Ripley” plot, the world they live in and the one they are constructing become blurred.”
Anton Corbijn directs Switzerland from a screenplay by Joanna Murray-Smith, based on the eponymous play the latter previously wrote. Corbijn rose to prominence as a music video director, crafting videos for U2 and Nirvana. However, Corbijn successfully transitioned to film, helming movies such as The American, A Most Wanted Man, and Life.
Switzerland’s producers include Gabrielle Tana, Troy Lum, Andrew Mason, Jim Robison, Kurt Martin, Karl Spoerri, and Andre Occhipinti. The Italian line producer is Enrico Ballarin. FilmNation Entertainment will be handling international sales.
