John Cena, a 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, is set to compete at WWE Royal Rumble 2025. The January 6th episode of RAW, which also marked the Netflix premiere of the show, witnessed John Cena officially kicking off his retirement tour.
During his appearance, Cena quickly addressed the question of aiming for the WWE World Heavyweight title for the 17th time, which would break WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s record of 16 title wins.
Although Cena acknowledged his 2,446-day losing streak, he confidently announced his entry into the Men’s Royal Rumble match. He also vowed to make history at WrestleMania 41 by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the 17th time.
After his appearance on January 6, many fans expected Cena to make regular appearances on WWE TV. However, since announcing his participation in the Men’s Royal Rumble match, Cena has not appeared on WWE TV.
As Royal Rumble 2025 approaches this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, reports have surfaced explaining why Cena has not appeared after Royal Rumble.
Here’s why John Cena hasn’t been on WWE TV lately
According to PWInsider, John Cena has been absent from WWE TV recently due to his commitments in Hollywood. He is currently in Budapest, Hungary, filming for the upcoming Matchbox film, based on the popular toy car line.
The film falls under the Skydance, Apple, and Mattel Films studio. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, along with Robbie Brenner from Mattel Films, are producing Matchbox.
Cena, making his in-ring return since last April, will bring an interesting dynamic to the Royal Rumble. It remains to be seen if Cena can make history by winning the Royal Rumble match for the third time in his career. For now, the only thing fans can do it wait.
