AEW star Bobby Lashley, a former WWE Champion, recently shared surprising news about his future outside of wrestling. Lashley has become well-known in professional wrestling over the years.
Besides wrestling, Lashley is also famous for his success in mixed martial arts (MMA). He started his MMA career in 2008 and fought in major organizations like Strikeforce and Bellator, facing top fighters. Lashley has an impressive MMA record of 15 wins and 2 losses.
His last MMA match occurred at Bellator 162 in 2016, where he won by submission against Josh Appelt. Since then, Lashley has stayed out of the MMA ring. However, now enjoying a successful run in AEW, Lashley recently discussed the possibility of returning to MMA.
AEW star Bobby Lashley says he’s not done with MMA or Boxing
In a recent edition of AEW’s Hey! (EW) on their YouTube channel, Bobby Lashley was asked about being one of the few wrestlers to transition into MMA successfully. He responded, “No, I don’t think I’m the only one who was good at it. Dave [Batista] went in there, won a match, he had a fight he trained for it, and he is still actively training. To me, that’s success. Brock [Lesnar] was successful, winning the UFC championship, and there were others who got into it”
He continued, “For me, when I got into it, it wasn’t just about like making it to a certain level. Like when I get into something, I actually want to be a student of the game. I open up a gym. So I actually put myself into it…I’m the type that I’m okay with taking a back seat to not knowing everything. So I fought for 10 years. In that time, I was training at all kinds of different gyms and I ran my own gym…So it’s something that I still want to pursue. I’m going to do a boxing match or a fight still.”
Last week, Bobby Lashley won the AEW Tag Team Championship with Shelton Benjamin on Dynamite. While Lashley is currently having a successful career in pro wrestling, it will be interesting to see if he pursues a career in MMA once again.
