Julia Garner has shed some light on the interesting filming process for her character, the Silver Surfer, in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The highly anticipated film will finally introduce Marvel’s first family to the MCU, with Pedro Pascal leading the team as Reed Richards. According to Julia Garner, The Fantastic Four: First Steps exclusively uses motion capture technology to create the Silver Surfer’s distinctive look.
In a recent discussion with Who What Wear, the Ozark star talked about her experiences with bringing the character to life. Talking about her performance, Garner noted, “You have to imagine everything when you’re doing it as if you’re auditioning. Even though we had the sets, I didn’t have my costume or hair and makeup or anything.”
Julia Garner also explained her motivations for taking on the role of the Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. “With the Silver Surfer, there’s still something very mysterious about it. That mystery is very important to me as an actor,” she added. “It’s such an iconic character, and it felt very different for me. I’ve never played a character like that.”
Aside from Julia Garner and Pedro Pascal, The Fantastic Four: First Steps also stars Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ralph Ineson in pivotal roles. Meanwhile, stars such as Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne are also part of the project, albeit in unnamed roles. Helmed by Matt Shakman, the film is currently on track to hit theatres on July 25, 2025.
