Scream 7’s Mason Gooding Praises Neve Campbell: ‘The Godmother of the Genre’

Mason Gooding will reprise his role of Chad Meeks-Martin for Scream 7. Joining Gooding in the Scream 7 cast is Neve Campbell, who returns in the iconic role of Sidney Prescott. While promoting his new film Heart Eyes, Gooding praised Campbell for her profound influence on the comedy slasher genre.

“I feel like that’s the godmother of the genre that we are so lucky to appropriate in Heart Eyes, the idea of marrying two different tones,” Gooding said to Entertainment Tonight. “Obviously, with the over-encompassing one being a more horrific and more high-octane experience that she still to this day has always handled with a level of ease and care and stoicism that’s made each iteration of her character, and I can say all of her work.”

Besides Campbell, Gooding is excited to work again with Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays his on-screen sister Mindy Meeks-Martin.

“I check in with her all the time,” Gooding said of Brown. “I feel like being able to step into a character that has been inundated with so much love, on set and in general, has allowed Jasmine and I to fall into a rhetoric that’s super comfortable for us, whether it’s like talking on a scene or decisions made . . . Ultimately, I owe to her how lovely she is and how encompassing it is.”

Who is involved in Scream 7 besides Mason Gooding?

The next day, Ortega dropped out due to scheduling conflicts on Wednesday Season 2, though it was later reported that a contract disagreement led to the departure.

Franchise creator Kevin Williamson directs Scream 7 from a screenplay by Guy Busick. James Vanderbilt, who has a story credit with Busick, will produce with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak.

Scream 7 opens in theaters on February 27, 2026.
