Amy Schumer Shares How Internet Comments Led to Cushing Syndrome Diagnosis

Amy Schumer has opened up about how internet trolls ultimately led her to a life-changing health diagnosis. The comedian shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast how comments about her swollen face prompted her to seek medical advice and eventually discover she had Cushing syndrome.

In this article, we will delve into the details about Amy Schumer’s diagnosis of Cushing syndrome.

Amy Schumer reveals how she realized she had Cushing syndrome

Amy Schumer has revealed that it was online trolls who unknowingly helped her discover she had Cushing syndrome. On the January 22 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schumer opened up about how internet criticism of her suddenly swollen face led her to seek a medical diagnosis. She had initially ignored the comments, dismissing them as unnecessary negativity. However, when doctors joined the conversation, expressing concerns about her appearance, Schumer began to take it seriously.

Doctors suggested she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition that results from exposure to high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, often due to steroid use. Schumer, who had been receiving steroid injections to treat scarring from a breast reduction and C-section, eventually realized the link between her treatment and her symptoms. She admitted, “So I got these was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

After receiving the diagnosis in early 2024, Schumer explained the added stress of starring in Kinda Pregnant, a comedy series due for release on Netflix in February 2025. Concerned about how she would appear on screen, Amy Schumer felt discouraged about her health condition. But her friend Lorraine Caffery’s encouraging words helped her regain her confidence. She said, “I just needed one person to just amp me up.”
