Captain America: Brave New World’s Giancarlo Esposito Teases Sidewinder’s Future

Giancarlo Esposito has become an actor known for his villain roles in recent years and soon he will be seen assuming another villainous role in the upcoming Captain America 4.

The actor will make his entrance into the MCU in the film, which is set to release in theaters on February 14, 2025. Esposito plays the role of Sidewinder in the movie. The character was first introduced in the 1980s Marvel Two-in-One comic book issue number 64.

Giancarlo Esposito hints at Sidewinder’s return after Captain America: Brave New World

Giancarlo Esposito attended the LA Comic Con where he spoke with On the Red Carpet about Captain America 4. He also mentioned some of his thoughts about the future that his character could have in the MCU.

During the interview, the actor was shown Sidewinder’s original look from the comics. Esposito then spoke enthusiastically about his desire to show more of that influence in future movies. He stated, “Part of the incorporation of Sidewinder’s colors I brought into the costume that I’m wearing. He further added, “I’m hoping that it gives them inspiration in movies to come that will allow me to take on more of that serpent persona.”

Esposito is making his debut in the MCU as Sidewinder, the leader of Marvel’s Serpent Society, in Captain America 4. Speaking about the physical prowess that Sidewinder would show off in the movie, Esposito said, “This guy knows how to use a rifle, a pistol, knives, (he’s) very very physical, active with his physicality, punches, kicks, all that.” Furthermore, the Breaking Bad alum revealed it was his first time playing a “character like this.”

Giancarlo Esposito spoke more about the action-packed nature of his role in Captain America 4 with PEOPLE at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024. “I can tease is that I’m a hands-on action person; I’m not a guy who’s just directing and using my brain to get in and out of situations,” he said. Additionally, he noted, “I’m a guy that uses my hands and uses all the tools of my trade to do what I do the best that it can be.”
