A release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has been announced.
In December 2024, it was announced that a fourth film in the Sonic the Hedgehog film was in the works. At the time, it was given a spring 2027 release window, though a specific date was not set.
When is Sonic the Hedgehog 4’s release date?
Per Deadline, Paramount has now dated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for March 19, 2027.
“The only other studio with a wide release on March 19, 2027, is Universal with an untitled film,” Deadline’s article notes. “An untitled Warner Bros Legendary Monterverse movie is set for Easter weekend, March 26 release that year.”
The news comes shortly after Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is now available on digital, became the highest installment in the franchise. It made around $219 million in the United States and over $420 million worldwide. In total, the Sonic film franchise has made more than $1.1 billion at the global box office.
Jeff Fowler has directed all three films in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise thus far. It is not immediately clear if he’ll return to helm the fourth movie, as no talent is attached to the project at this time.
Ben Schwartz voices Sonic the Hedgehog in all three movies. The franchise’s cast also includes Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower, Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. Keanu Reeves voiced Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic 3, which also saw Carrey play Professor Gerald Robotnik in addition to Ivo.
“Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet,” the synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 reads. “Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”
