Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star in an upcoming adaptation of The Masque of the Red Death for A24 and Picturestart, according to a recent report from Deadline.
What do we know about The Masque of the Red Death adaptation?
According to Deadline’s report, Sweeney is in negotiations with the companies to star in the upcoming movie, which is described as a “wildly revisionist and darkly comedic take” on the infamous short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe.
Charlie Polinger is attacked to the project as writer and director, with little else known about how the adaptation will change things up.
Originally published in 1842, The Masque of the Red Death is a short story from the legendary Edgar Allan Poe, and follows the story of Prince Prospero, a man who is attempting to avoid a dangerous plague known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. The story follows Prospero as he hosts a masquerade ball in the abbey, with one mysterious figure dressed as the Red Death appearing.
Deadline’s report says that the film is set to begin production sometime later this year. For Sweeney, it’s just one of many new projects for the superstar. After breaking onto the scene with Euphoria, Sweeney has starred in a number of high-profile films, and is next set to appear in Paul Feig’s upcoming thriller The Housemaid, Michael Pearce’s Echo Valley, the third season of Euphoria, and an untitled biopic where she’ll star as Christy Martin.
As for Polinger, his next project is the upcoming The Plague, which will star Joel Edgerton.
