Francisco San Martin, who came to prominence for his role as Dario Hernandez in the hit soap opera Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 39.
San Martin starred in Days of Our Lives for a brief stint in 2011, where he appeared as Hernandez, a character that would go on to appear several times throughout the series and be portrayed by various other actors. Most recently, the character was played by Jordi Vilasuso in 2016-17.
Outside of Days of Our Lives, San Martin also appeared in a variety of other projects, including a brief stint in The Bold and the Beautiful, another hit soap opera. In 2017, he appeared in a handful of episodes of the hit CW series Jane the Virgin. His last credited acting role came in 2022, a short film titled Dot.
San Martin was born on the island of Mallorca in Spain and raised in Montana, beginning acting there in various children’s productions. After going back to Spain in his teens, he began taking acting lessons and would go on to appear in a variety of productions in his native country.
San Martin’s death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, which noted that the cause of death was suicide.
In a tribute to the actor on Instagram (via Forbes), his Days of Our Lives co-star Camila Banus said she loved her former co-star. “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. My only witness that pau sang happy birthday to me in the middle of a concert in Hollywood, you couldn’t believe it. Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
