Here’s how Kitty’s mother died in XO, Kitty

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, a novel written by Jenny Han, discloses that Kitty’s mother slipped and bumped her head hard on the floor, leading to a brutal injury that caused her death.

XO, Kitty has put Eve at the forefront of Kitty’s story, fueling her motivations to visit the elite college where her mother studied and learn more about her. In Season 2, Kitty learns more details about her past and mother via the 1990s letters. These letters are delivered by Peter Kavinsky, portrayed by Noah Centineo. Simon, her mother’s long-lost cousin, originally sent the letters to Eve Song that unveil details about their past.

One of the letters reveals that Eve, along with a 3-year-old Kitty, was meant to go to Korea to meet her mother’s sister back in the day. However, a tragedy occurred, leading to Simon and Eve never getting to reunite. Eve didn’t get a chance to visit her mother’s side of the family as she passed away before they could go to Korea. Nevertheless, Kitty decides to fulfill her mother’s wish of visiting her close ones.

In the finale, she manages to reunite her grandmother with her sister. Neither XO, Kitty nor Han’s book-to-movie adaptation has shed light on Eve’s demise on screen. However, the book exposes that she died of a sudden injury caused by slipping and hitting her head. At the time, Kitty was quite young. Her mother’s memories have stayed with her since through her famous song.
