Dune lead Timothee Chalamet has been effectively fined $79 for arriving at the London premiere of his upcoming film, A Complete Unknown, on a Lime e-bike. The Hollywood A-lister portrays legendary singer Bob Dylan in the project, encapsulating his prolonged rise to fame. After an extended waiting period, the movie finally made its way to the U.K., premiering at BFI Southbank three days prior to its official release in the region. However, Chalamet’s eco-friendly entrance at the event ultimately culminated in the actor having to pay a monetary penalty.
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the fine imposed on Timothee Chalamet.
Timothee Chalamet fined $79 for riding an electric bike to premiere
During his January 15 appearance on the French talk show Quotidien, Timothee Chalamet disclosed that he was charged with a £65 fine, which roughly amounts to $79, for parking his e-bike at an unsanctioned spot at the aforementioned premiere.
The four-time Golden Globe Award nominee stated that he favored arriving at BFI Southbank on a bike to avoid traffic. Speaking to host Yann Romain Barthès in French, the actor stated, “The idea is that I have no idea. There was a traffic jam, and I actually wasn’t allowed to park there, and I got a £65 fine.” (via London Evening Standard)
Timothee Chalamet highlighted how the debacle could have detrimental effects on Lime. He jokingly remarked, “It’s horrible because it was an advert for them!”
Renowned photographer Aidan Zamiri also faced a similar penalty at the event. Zamiri also arrived at BFI Southbank on a Lime e-bike alongside the Call Me By Your Name actor. He even posted a clip of the two driving through Westminster Bridge on Instagram with the caption, “Favourite mode of transport.” Nevertheless, their ride ended with Zamiri getting fined £2, or $2.44, for incorrect parking, just like Chalamet.
A Complete Unknown features Chalamet as the charismatic Bob Dylan, with Elle Fanning portraying Sylvie Russo. The film also features the likes of Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, and P.J. Byrne, among others.
