Severance fans are curious to know whether Mark’s wife, Gemma Scout, portrayed by Dichen Lachman, is dead or alive. Upon introduction, she used to be a literature teacher, leading a happy married life with Mark. However, she later meets with an accident, which presumably takes her life. However, later episodes reveal her demise was faked and she was put through the severance procedure.
Here’s all you need to know about her role in Lumon Industries.
Is Mark’s wife, Gemma dead or alive in Severance?
Yes, Gemma is alive in Severance. She works as Ms. Casey on the Testing Floor of Lumon Industries.
Gemma and Mark lived a healthy life ahead of the tragedy. The former dies after meeting a brutal accident, which appears to have killed her. Since then, Mark had a difficult time coping with grief and decides to take a crucial step.
He thinks that leaving behind all the memories of the outside world will help him get over the grief. So, he undergoes a severance procedure, believing that separating his work and personal life for a couple of days will allow him to forget his pain.
While Mark and even the audience believed Gemma was dead, the reality was something different. She never died but lived another life after being severed, forgetting her memories. This ultimate reveal comes in Episode 7, wherein a drunk Mark tears his wife’s photo to prove to Alexa that he has moved on now.
Later, the camera zooms in on Gemma’s photo, indicating she never died in the first place. Gemma is now Ms. Casey, serving as a counselor at Lumon Industries. She holds wellness sessions with the employees. The procedure has made her close to robotic as she barely talks and displays no emotions. However, Mark doesn’t know about any of this as he has forgotten his memories of the Lummon’s office.
