Creature Commandos Actor on Why [Spoiler] Dies in the Finale

A Creature Commandos star has expressed their thoughts on a major character death which takes place in the finale. The animated DC show concluded with a promising finale in Episode 7, which aired on Thursday. Starring Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus and Clayface, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Indira Varma as the Bride, and Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Creature Commandos started airing on December 5, 2024.

Zoë Chao, who plays Nina in Creature Commandos, recently appeared for a chat about the show.

Speaking to The Direct, the actress talked about the death of her character in the finale. In Episode 7 of Creature Commandos, Nina is assigned the task of killing the Princess from a sneak attack underwater. However, the latter gets alerted and kills Nina instead. This leads to the Bride (Indira Varma) getting enraged as she was her one true friend in Task Force M. Hence, the Bride decides to avenge Nina’s death and kills the Princess.

Talking about how she felt about Nina dying, Chao said she found the story “compelling.” She further added, “James Gunn, does it again. He gets you right in the heart. You often, in stories like this, lose your favorite characters sometimes, or the ones that represent the heart of the story. So I understand why she had to go. She was too good for this world.”

Zoë Chao later explained why she felt Nina met her perfect end in Creature Commandos. The actress stated that her character’s “life ended the way she’s always lived it, which is actually kind of by a moral code that other people in her world didn’t have.”

Furthermore, Chao felt that Nina’s death holds a sense of dignity as she didn’t “think she (Nina) could ever really kill another being.”
