Transformers: Reactivate Canceled, Developer Issues Statement

British game studio Splash Damage announced it has ceased development of Transformers: Reactivate. The developer issued a statement regarding the cancelation, and what that means for the studio moving forward.

Transformers: Reactivate studio Splash Damage releases statement about cancellation

In Splash Damage’s statement, the studio will be scaling down, and refocusing their time on other projects. Unfortunately, this means the studio may potentially suffer from layoffs. The statement does not go into specifics, but they do assure that they are “doing everything” possible to support those whose roles may have been made redundant.

“This decision did no come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people,” reads the statement. “We want to take a moment to thank the team who worked on Transformers for their dedication and passion.”

“While not being able to see the game through to release is painful, having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues hurts even more,” continues the statement. “We’re now focused on doing everything we can to support them through this tough period, just as we are committed to caring for those who will stay with us as we build a stronger Splash Damage for the future.”

The reasoning behind Transformers: Reactivate’s cancelation was not discussed in the statement.

Transformers: Reactivate was revealed at The Game Awards in 2022. It was to be a one to four player online action game based on the popular Hasbro franchise for PC and consoles. It would allow players to take on the role of fan-favorite characters as the battle an enemy known as The Legion. Not much else was known about the project beyond that.

“The gravest threat to humanity has arrived. And it’s already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them,” reads the game’s official description. “All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind.”
