Zach Gilford shares updates about his face on his Instagram
On December 17, Zach Gilford took to his Instagram stories to share three selfies depicting the three stages of his swollen face. The Midnight Mass star never explained how the swelling in his face started.
The first two selfies depicted the worsening condition of his swollen face. In his first selfie, the actor’s face was considerably swollen at the top left portion, which led to his left eye being shut. “Soooooo yesterday was fun…,” he captioned the first story.
Then in his second selfie, the actor’s face had fully swollen, with the swelling affecting his cheekbones, and browbones. He wore a blue face mask. He had captioned this story, “good thing we wrapped @criminalminds last week.”
Finally, in his third selfie, the swelling on Gilford’s face considerably decreased, which allowed him to open both his eyes. He put up a caption thanking the hospital that treated him but mentioned that he had yet to fully recover.
“Thanks to all the nurses, doctors, and staff at @huntingtonhospital for coaxing my face back to normalcy. …still a little ways to go.”
Facial swelling or facial edema, as per Cleveland Clinic, can happen when fluid builds up in the tissues of a person’s face. The following problems can cause facial swelling:
- Allergies
- Injuries
- Infections
Facial swelling is also a symptom of anaphylaxis, a deadly allergic reaction. Treatments for facial swelling, while required, vary depending on the cause.
Other causes include drug reactions (from medicines like Prednisone), angioedema, Cushing syndrome, hyperthyroidism, lupus, and preeclampsia.
